5. REFLECTION
Experience
Overall, it was really a good and enjoyable experience for me. Although
there were ups and downs throughout the process, I learned a lot.
Interestingly, Task 3 was initially the one I was most worried about, as
there was so much to do, but it turned out to be my favourite task.
Everything we learned in Task 1 and 2 was helpful for Task 3, and I could
feel myself gradually improving. It was a great experience having
Typography and Advanced Typography as the starting modules in the first
two semesters. There were some parts I struggled with, especially with the
hectic schedule alongside other modules, but fortunately, I managed to
finish the tasks, and I am very happy with the outcome. Although there is
still room for improvement, I am satisfied with my work at this moment.
Observation
The biggest difference after learning Typography and Advanced Typography
is that I would now observe and analyse any typography design I encounter
in daily live, which was quite fun. Throughout all the tasks we did in
these 14 weeks, I realised that it was important to keep observing and
continuously seek better solutions to the challenges we face. By observing
both my work and my peers' works, I found many helpful inspirations that I
believe can be apply to various projects.
Finding
Over these 14 weeks, and through my experience in Typography last
semester, my biggest discovery has been the fun of "text" / "font" /
"type". When I first started Typography class, I never imagined that it
could be so interesting, with so many theories behind its use. This has
sparked my interest in exploring this area further. I made many small
discoveries throughout this process, but one piece of advice I came across
during my further reading in a previous task stood out to me: Stay
creative, stay curious, be passionate, be design-driven. This has been a
helpful reminder throughout the process.
